Real Business : Autumn 2008
REAL BUSINESS AUTUMN 2008 21 RANDY LARCOMBE GAVIN REID FCPA CHAIR OF FINANCE GRADUATE COMMITTEE, ORIGIN Origin selects graduate recruits each year, the first step being an online application (it's a three-step process). See www.originenergy.com.au for more information. "We are looking for academic achievement, but also community involvement," says Gavin Reid, chair of Origin's finance graduate committee. Origin then conducts a telephone interview, and the successful applicants are then asked in for a face-to-face interview. "The face-to-face is interesting because we ask everyone to perform a five- minute presentation," Reid explains. "We nominate the topic, and then they have 10 minutes to prepare. The other facet of this interview is a series of behavioural questions." ■ Become involved in a sports club, debating society or anything else that gets you out in the community -- this will show Origin you're not just focused on your career. It's all about work/life balance and being a well-rounded individual. ■ Origin is after good communicators and team players. Mavericks need not apply. ■ Demonstrate a willingness to grow and develop. Be flexible. ■ Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of Origin's business. Graduates complete a three-year rotation in different parts of Origin's business, which sees them in real roles developing their accounting foundation skills. Applications for the 2009 graduate intake close on 31 March 2008. See www.originenergy.com.au for more information. ORIGIN CAREER TIPS BRIGHT SPARKS WANT TO MAKE YOUR APPLICATION STAND OUT?
