30 Real Business ISSUE 1, 2010 MAVIS NG HAD ALWAYS ENJOYED fashion and shopping but never imagined that she would one day be working for one of the world s most prestigious international fashion companies, surrounded by luxury goods, models and stylists. What she did know was that she wanted to be challenged by her work. "I d never thought of fashion but when the recruitment officer said it would be a very challenging role with good exposure, I decided to go for it," says Mavis. A year before applying for her high-flying job at Fendi in Singapore, Mavis had started CPA Program. She believes this helped her to secure the position. Over the next seven years, she worked in three companies, the most informative being the pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). "I had wanted a challenging and dynamic environment, where I would be able to learn as much as I could. e four years at BMS was the most fulfilling work experience I had ever had. I learned a great deal from my financial controller and finance director," she recalls.
